How Alight Counselling Can Help

We start by learning more about you — your past experiences, beliefs, perceptions, relationship and family history, as well as your current struggles.

With this context in mind, we can then move into unpacking some of the internal and external factors that continue to contribute to your ongoing mental health struggles or relationship issues.

Marlie’s primary goal is to create safety, trust and rapport while we explore your internal experience. Through curiosity, humour, mindful studying and an attuned presence, Marlie will help you learn more about yourself, and make sense of your experience.

Marlie supports people with a variety of mental health struggles. See below for more.

Why should I get counselling?

For a long time, I didn’t see the point in getting professional support either. I always felt like I should be able to figure it out on my own.

Although things are changing, there’s also still a stigma to getting help. A lot of us were passed down the belief from our families that there is something shameful about getting help. That it’s a sign of weakness.

But let’s be honest - breaking the pattern and seeking help when you need it most is one of the most courageous steps you will ever take.

Whatever your goal is, whether you want to re-establish your identity or purpose, cultivate a healthier and more satisfactory sex life, improve relationships with friends, family or your romantic partner – whatever it is – we must look inward first.

We must make the changes within ourselves in order to achieve the outcome we desire.

My goal is to be able to support individuals and couples while they tackle and re-frame expectations and beliefs that are no longer serving you.

I strive to support you as you realign your expectations of yourself, help you to learn how to prioritize both self and others, to learn to recognize your own self-worth and value, and to ultimately achieve a healthier balance in your life.

You deserve support.

You deserve to experience your relationships and your life the way you have always wanted.
